Pail-Shaped Tea Container with Lotuses and Herons

Tea masters found creative ways of repurposing utensils. This piece belonged to a set of food cups ordered from China in the 1600s. The cups were sold to different buyers in 1940. The new owner of this cup gave it a rosewood lid and used it as a container for powdered green tea. Its large size allowed him to serve many guests at once.
