May 16, 2023 (Tue) - August 20, 2023 (Sun)
The first Japanese porcelain was produced in the Arita area of Kyushu in the 1610s . It is called “Imari ware” because it was shipped from the nearby port of Imari. This exhibition presents early Imari ware, which dates from the 1610s to the 1660s, the decade when production shifted to porcelain that was exported to Europe. This early Imari ware features blue-and-white and multicolor decoration.
