"National Treasure Gallery: Sakyamuni Rising from the Gold Coffin"
This scroll depicts the dramatic scene of the resurrection of the Buddha Sakyamuni. Hearing of his death and entrance into Nirvana, Sakyamuni's mother rushed to him from heaven. For his mother, who could not arrive in time, Sakyamuni, by his divine power, opened the coffin, rose up, and told her of the transient nature of life. With Sakyamuni in the middle, the centripetal composition of this work is striking and draws the viewer’s attention.
