This exhibition is comprised mainly of paintings and prints associated with the New Year. Works on display depict auspicious motifs, such as the Seven Gods of Good Fortune and the treasure ship, as well as New Year scenes including manzai performances, battledore and shuttlecock, and uprooting young pines. The exhibition also shows specially printed materials from the Edo period, which contain poems created at the New Year and were exchanged at occasions such as New Year’s gatherings.
