Japanese tea masters started ordering custom-made tea bowls from Korea in the late 1500s. This bowl was one of the earliest orders. To decorate the surface, an artisan carved lines into the clay and made flower-shaped indentations using a stamp. These areas were filled with white clay to make them stand out against the background.
