In its early years, Tokyo National Museum collected paintings and prints in Western styles by living artists, though these works are rarely displayed due to current exhibition policies. The paintings and prints exhibited here show how the museum grew and evolved while maintaining close relationships with contemporary art and society.

This exhibition considers these works from three perspectives: I. Connections with the World, II. Connections with Contemporary Art, and III. Connections with Social Conditions.
