- (JR Line) 10 minutes’ walk from Ueno or Uguisudani Station
- (Ginza or Hibiya Tokyo Metro Line) 15 minutes' walk from Ueno Station
- (Chiyoda Tokyo Metro Line) 15 minutes' walk from Nezu Station
- (Keisei Line) 15 minutes' walk from Keisei Ueno Station
Visitor entrance is via the Main gate.

- 5 mins from Ueno Exit, off the Shuto Expressway Ueno Route.

Admissions ＆ Tickets
Waiting times at the main gate ticket counters may exceed 30 minutes during busy periods. We recommend purchasing tickets online for smoother entry into the museum.

Purchasing TNM Collection Exhibitions tickets
TNM Collection Exhibitions tickets can be purchased on your smartphones and other devices. The tickets will be valid (any time during the Museum's opening hours) for two months from the date of purchase.
Note: Visitors who wish to enter only the Kuroda Memorial Hall and/or Research and Information Center are admitted free of charge.

Tickets for special exhibitions can also be used to visit the TNM Collection Exhibitions on the same day.
High/Junior High/Elementary School Students and persons under 18 and over 70
Free admission. Please present proof of age when entering the museum.
Persons with disabilities and one caregiver of individuals with disabilities
Free admission. Please present a certificate of disabilities when entering the museum.

Free admission to the TNM Collection Exhibitions on May 19, September 21, and November 3, 2026.
Closed
Mondays (Excluding holidays. On those days, the Museum will be open on Monday and closed the following day)
Year-end closure: From December 26 to December 31, 2026. January 1, 2027 : Opening hours to be determined.
Subject to change.
Exceptions for 2026:
- April 7, 2026: The museum will be temporarily closed for maintenance of the exhibition environment.
- The museum will be open on April 27, 2026; August 10, 2026; September 21, 2026; and March 29, 2027.
- December 15, 2026: The museum will be closed for facility inspection and maintenance.
- At the end of 2026, the museum will be open until December 25.
However, from December 22 to December 25, only the Horyu-ji Treasures Gallery and the Kuroda Memorial Hall will be open. - In 2027, opening hours on January 1 have not yet been determined.
Temporary partial closures:
- From November 30 to December 31, 2026, Rooms 17–20 of the Honkan (Japanese Gallery) and the Toyo Kan (Asian Gallery) will be closed for exhibition environment maintenance.
- Hyokeikan will be closed unless special exhibitions and events are held inside.
