Ietsugu belonged to a family of artisans who made bronze mirrors for the imperial court. He allegedly crafted this mirror for Emperor Goyōzei (1571–1617). The non-reflective side is shown here, adorned with a botanical pattern associated with the emperor. The small inscription at the bottom reads, “Ao Ietsugu, Greatest in the Land, 1588."
