Special Viewing: The Imperial Throne and the August Seat of the Empress

    In the Sokuirei-Seiden-no-Gi (Ceremony of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor at the Seiden), which took place at the Imperial Palace on October 22, 2019, His Majesty the Emperor proclaimed his accession to the throne and received  felicitations of representatives from Japan and overseas. In this ceremony,  His Majesty the Emperor ascended to the Takamikura (Imperial Throne) in the Seiden-Matsu-no-Ma, followed by Her Majesty the Empress who ascended to the Michodai (August Seat of the Empress). After His Majesty the Emperor delivered the Imperial Address, the Prime Minister offered his words of congratulation.
    In the Sokuirei-Seiden-no-Gi, Their Majesties the Emperor and the Empress wore traditional costumes.
    The Takamikura, the Michodai, ceremonial items etc., which were used in the Sokuirei-Seiden-no-Gi, are open to the public.

In The Special Viewing: The Imperial Throne and the August Seat of the Empress, all visitors will pass through a metal detector and have their luggage checked. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Please put your large luggage in the lockers.

It is OK to take photos of the exhibits in the Special Viewing: The Imperial Throne and the August Seat of the Empress

You are allowed to take photos in the exhibition rooms (personal use only). Please refrain from using flash photography or equipment such as tripods or selfie sticks and be aware that the organizers may decide to prohibit photography as circumstances require.

(Last entry 30 minutes before closing)
Closed Mondays (Except January 13, 2020) and janury 14, 2020.
*The Museum will be closed from December 26 to January 1.
*The exhibiton of The Imperial Throne and the August Seat of the Empress will open on December 23.
Admission Free
*The regular exhibitions and Special exhibition "Izumo and Yamato: The Birth of Ancient Japan" requires a separate admission fee.
