    Japanese Gallery (Honkan) Room 18
    January 29, 2013 (Tue) - March 3, 2013 (Sun)

Kuroda Seiki (1866-1924) was trained under Raphael Collin, who is considered as a painter in the school of Pleinairism, and studied not only academic painting depicting human figures in nature but also Impressionistic ways of depicting light. Living in an age of mechanization and urbanization, Kuroda prefered depicting the countryside rather than the city, especially waterside areas such as the sea, rivers and lakes.

This exhibition consists of Kuroda's paintings depicting the water. We hope visitors consider the meaning of depictions of water while enjoying the various expressions in the paintings.
