Toyokan

  • The Toyokan has thirteen exhibition rooms on five floors and one basement floor. Art and artifacts from Asian regions are on exhibit.
  • Lighting in exhibition rooms is kept low to protect the works.
  • Please follow the rules below in order to prevent staining and damaging the exhibits, and to prevent pests and fungus growing, which will harm the exhibits. See Photograph and Other Guidelines for details.
    Do not eat or drink in the exhibition rooms.
    Do not use ballpoint pens, ink pens, or brushes that may mark and damage the exhibits.
    Do not use flash when taking photographs in the exhibition rooms.
    Do not bring large bags, wet umbrellas, or pets (with the exception of guide dogs, service dogs, and hearing assistance dogs) into the exhibition rooms.
  • If you have any questions or need any help, please inform a nearby staff member.

 

Toyokan 1st Floor

  • Museum staff can be found at the entrance and the information desk near the entrance.
  • A small whiteboard (for communication) is available at the information desk.
  • Wheelchairs and walking sticks are available for use at the museum. Please ask museum staff.
  • An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is located at the entrance.
  • Entry to the galleries and the museum shop is on your right-hand side inside the entrance.
  • Gallery 1 is located on the first floor.
  • Restrooms for men, women, and persons with disabilities are located on your left-hand side inside the entrance.
  • Baby chairs are located inside the women's restrooms.
  • Ostomate facility and diaper changing corners are located inside the restrooms for persons with disabilities.
  • There are four elevators in the Toyokan. Not all of the elevators stop at each floor.
  • Three elevators stop at the first floor.
  • The two elevators on your left inside the entrance stop at floors B1, 3, and 5.
    The elevator in the center of the gallery stops at every floor.
  • Staircases are located on your left inside the entrance, and in the center of the gallery.
Toyokan 1st Floor

 

Toyokan 2nd Floor

  • The second floor can be accessed by the central elevator or the central staircase.
  • Galleries 2 and 3 are located on the second floor. An introductory slide show to the Toyokan is on view in Gallery 2.
  • There are no restrooms on this floor.
Toyokan 2nd Floor

 

Toyokan 3rd Floor

  • The third floor can be accessed by the elevators on your left inside the entrance of the building, the central elevator, or the staircases.
  • Galleries 4, 5, and 6 are located on the third floor. Gallery 6 is an interactive education space.
  • Men's and women's restrooms are located in front of the elevators on your left inside the entrance of the building.
  • Baby chairs are located inside the women's restrooms.
  • The terrace can be accessed from beside these restrooms.
  • For wheelchair access to the terrace, please consult a nearby staff member, because it is difficult to use the doors without assistance.
Toyokan 3rd Floor

 

Toyokan 4th Floor

  • The fourth floor can be accessed by the central elevator or the central staircase.
  • Galleries 7 and 8 are located on the fourth floor.
  • There are no restrooms on this floor.
Toyokan 4th Floor

 

Toyokan 5th Floor

  • The fifth floor can be accessed by the elevators on your left inside the entrance of the building, the central elevator, or the staircases.
  • Galleries 9 and 10 are located on the fifth floor.
  • There are no restrooms on this floor.
Toyokan 5th Floor

 

Toyokan B1 Floor

  • Galleries 11, 12, and 13 are located on the basement floor.
  • The basement floor can be accessed by the elevators on your left inside the entrance of the building, the central elevator, or the staircases.
  • Men's and women's restrooms are located in front of the elevators on your left inside the entrance of the building.
  • Baby chairs are located inside the women's restrooms.
  • An additional elevator is at the far end of the galleries on your right inside the entrance of the building. This elevator stops at floors B1, 2, and 4.
  • The TNM & TOPPAN Museum Theater is located in front of Gallery 13.
