In Japan, the moon on the 15th night of the eighth month of the lunar calendar (mid-September in the current calendar) has been appreciated as "the beautiful moon of mid-autumn" since ancient times. This exhibit features autumn moon motifs in Japanese art, and those read in waka poems.
