This utensil for tea gatherings is made of an alloy called [sahari]. Containers of this type can be made of other metals, ceramics, wood, bamboo, or other materials, but ones made of [sahari] are particularly highly prized. The lord of Matsue domain (now Shimane Prefecture) and a famed tea master, Matsudaira Fumai (1751–1818) previously owned this container.
