Heiseikan

  • The Heiseikan is a gallery for special exhibitions and exhibits of Japanese archeology.
  • Lighting in exhibition rooms is kept low to protect the works.
  • Please follow the rules below in order to prevent staining and damaging the exhibits, and to prevent pests and fungus growing, which will harm the exhibits. See Photograph and Other Guidelines for details.
    Do not eat or drink in the exhibition rooms.
    Do not use ballpoint pens, ink pens, or brushes that may mark and damage the exhibits.
    Do not use flash when taking photographs in the exhibition rooms.
    Do not bring large bags, wet umbrellas, or pets (with the exception of guide dogs, service dogs, and hearing assistance dogs) into the exhibition rooms.
  • If you have any questions or need any help, please inform a nearby staff member.

 

Heiseikan 1st Floor

  • After your entrance, an information desk is on your left.
  • AED is located next to the information desk.
  • Elevators are located left to central stairs and escalators, available for disabled visitors and visitors with wheelchairs or baby carriages.
  • Wheelchairs and walking sticks are available here. (One of them is a wheelchair with height adjustment device.)
  • Telephones are left to the central stairs.
  • There are coin-operated lockers in the entrance hall and behind central stairs.
  • There is a men’s restroom.
  • There is a women’s restroom with a diaper changing place and baby chair.
  • There is a restroom for disabled visitors with an ostomate facility.
  • There is an aid station also available as a nursing room. Ask staff for your use.
  • Your entrance with guide dogs is permitted.
  • In case special exhibitions are overcrowded, visitors may not walk around with baby carriages and keep them at information desk instead.
  • The right side from the entrance is to a connecting passage to Honkan. There is a lounge area on the way.
  • There is a lounge at the left side from the entrance. In further space, drinking and eating are permitted.
  • Symposiums and lectures are held at the auditorium.

Heiseikan 2nd Floor

  • Your visit to the 2nd floor is permitted when special exhibitions are opening. You may use escalators at both sides of the central stairs.
  • There are four special exhibit rooms across the central stairs.
  • There is a men’s restroom.
  • There is a women’s restroom with a diaper changing place.
  • There is a restroom for disabled visitors with a diaper changing place.
  • Coin-operated lockers are on the left go up from the escalator.
  • At the end go up from the escalator, there is a lounge with a couch viewing a Japanese garden in the north of the building.
  • Go up from the escalator, the opposite side is a gift shop. Gifts and books related to special exhibitions are available here.
