Noh, a traditional performing art of Japan, was performed at shrines and temples in prayer for rich harvests, health, longevity, and prosperity.
Costumes and props used in noh thus often carry auspicious meanings that are reflected in decorative motifs that are either unique to Japan or borrowed from Chinese traditions. This exhibition features auspicious designs full of joy and splendor.
