February 8, 2022 (Tue) - March 21, 2022 (Mon)Heart of Medicine (Ishinpō in Japanese) is the oldest extant compilation of medical texts in Japan. It was compiled in 948 by a master acupuncturist named Tanba no Yasuyori (912–995). The compilation was conserved between 2015 and 2020 because of insect damages and natural wear. Commemorating the project’s completion, this exhibition showcases Heart of Medicine in its entirety: 30 volumes, mainly in handscroll format. The exhibition also sheds light on the conservation process and the discoveries it led to.
