This prominent decorative sutra from the early Kamakura period (1192–1333) has been passed down at Jikoji Temple in Tokigawa village, Saitama prefecture. Its accompanying documents reveal that the sutra text was transcribed jointly by several court nobles. Other extant examples of the Lotus Sutra that were transcribed by multiple individuals include ones donated by the Heike clan, as well as the ones known as the “Kunoji kyo” and “Hasedera kyo,” all of which are designated as National Treasures.
