Autumn Special Viewing 2013

The chicness of Edo Rinpa school: two-week special viewing of nine works,
including Sakai Hoitsu's
Flowering Plants of Summer and Autumn

秋の特別公開

Masterpieces and distinctive works from the Museum collection will be on exhibit during the Autumn Special Viewing.

Works on display this time include Sakai Hoitsu's extremely popular Flowering Plants of Summer and Autumn and Wakan Roei Shu Poetry Anthology Segment, Known as "Masuda", a Japanese-style masterpiece produced in the Heian period. In the Toyokan, rare works that were seldom exhibited before the building's renewal, such as the beautiful Banner with Two Standing Bodhisattvas (Five Dynasties Period - Northern Song dynasty), will be on display for a limited period of two weeks.

During this period, special events, such as performances, concerts, and lectures are scheduled.
Special dates to be noted are:
*September 21 (Sat), 2013 - the Cultural Exchange Day for Foreign Students
*September 28 (Sat), 2013 - extended opening until 20:00.

Attention! The section on autumn and winter from Sakai Hoitsu's Flowers and Birds of the Four Seasons will also be exhibited. This is a must-see for Rinpa-school fans.

September 21 (Sat), 2013 - Cultural Exchange Day for Foreign Students

Cultural Exchange Day for Foreign Students 2013

The Cultural Exchange Day for Foreign Students will be held again this year. Foreign students enrolled in Japanese schools, assistant teachers of foreign languages (ALTs), and their guardians will be allowed into regular exhibitions free of charge.

A variety of events are scheduled, including English guided tours especially designed for visitors from overseas, and the guided tour of the Highlights of Japanese Art exhibition, introducing the development of Japanese art in basic Japanese. Tea ceremonies for foreign students will also be held in Okyokan, one of the teahouses in the Museum Garden.

September 28 (Sat), 2013 - Concerts and Special Extended Opening until 20:00

In the daytime a concert by flutist Ms. Ueno Yoshie and lectures are scheduled, while an Indonesian traditional music concert by Lambangsari, a performance group of Javanese Gamelan music, will be held in the evening. Please enjoy a long, autumn evening in the illuminated museum premises filled with a fantastic atmosphere.

University Students: 400 (300) yen
High/Junior High/Elementary School Students and persons under 18 and over 70: Free
