During China’s Ming (1368–1664) and Qing (1636–1912)dynasties, embroidery techniques developed greatly and reached new heights of refinement. Ming-dynasty needle-loop embroidery techniques, for example, producedexquisite patterns with interlaced threads, while Qing-dynasty embroidery achieved painterly effects resembling ink painting and calligraphy.Today’s exhibition introduces embroidery techniques, the uses of the textiles, and the meanings of their patterns and motifs.
