This work features eight poems by Bai Juyi (772–846), a Chinese poet highly esteemed at the Japanese imperial court and among the nobility.
The poems were transcribed by Fujiwara no Kōzei (972–1027), a renowned calligrapher and prominent court noble in Kyoto. Written on paper delicately dyed in soft hues, it is widely regarded as a masterpiece of wayō (Japanese-style) calligraphy, celebrated for its elegance and gentle tone that reflect the refined court culture of the time.
