Every year the Tokyo National Museum acquires new cultural properties for its collection. Many properties were added to our collection last year through purchases and donations from our benefactors. Each individual work has considerable significance in illustrating the culture of Japan or other Asian country or region. This exhibition, featuring 72 of the new acquisitions from last year, introduces the museum’s role of acquiring cultural properties, together with the alluring variety of these properties, which present to us the culture of the past.
