This sutra is part of a transcription of a Buddhist canon that Empress Kōmyō (701–760) commissioned in prayer for the repose of her parents, probably in private as an individual rather than an empress. The "Eleventh Day of the Fifth Month" is the date of the words of prayer written at the end of the scroll.
