December 12, 2023 (Tue) - June 23, 2024 (Sun)In the Kofun period (ca. 3rd–7th century), rituals were held in locations away from major roads and the bustle of daily life, such as hilltops and small islands, where gods were believed to reside. A variety of materials including clay, stone, and iron were used to make ritualistic tools. In eastern Japan, many mirrors, swords, and beads were made with steatite to be used for rituals.
