An Up-close Experience with Buddhist Statues

This display features high-definition images of three of Tokyo National Museum’s representative statues from Gandhara, China and Japan on a large 70-inch monitor.

When you approach the screen and look at the statue’s face in profile, you will see an 8K 3D image that moves in tandem with your gaze. You can view the statue from any angle, just as if the real statue was right there before you. You can also use a torch-like device to take part in an investigation with a curator. When you shine the torch on the ‘highlights,’ a display will appear outlining some noteworthy features.

We hope this experience conveys the allure of Buddhist statues.
