For centuries, tea masters have carved their own tea scoops out of bamboo. Each scoop is thought to reflect the spirit of its maker through subtle differences in shape and color. This one was carved by Katagiri Sekishū (1605–1673), a renowned samurai lord, tea master, and practitioner of Zen Buddhism.
