Flowering spring plants accompany cherry blossoms for this warm and lively painting. A [waka] poem is inscribed onto the work, originally written in deference to the 9th shogun of the Muromachi period (1392–1573). Evoking "blossoms that will continue to bloom for generations to come," the poem subtly compares the flowers to his everlasting authority.
