Kyōgen is a comedic performing art about everyday life in the Muromachi period (1392–1573). The plays depict relationships, family issues, and people’s interactions with natural phenomena and supernatural beings. Many kyōgen masks have playful facial expressions that suit the humorous plays, while the costumes feature dyed designs that are bold and whimsical.
