Room 11 on the 1st floor of Honkan (Japanese Gallery) is closed today.

Tokyo National Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will jointly organize the exhibition Elegant Perfection: Masterpieces of Courtly and Religious Art from the Tokyo National Museum (Sunday, February 19 - Sunday, April 8, 2012) to commemorate the opening of a permanent gallery dedicated to Japanese art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Kuromon ("Black Gate") will be closed on Saturday, January 28 - Sunday, January 29, 2012.
The exhibit of the painting Life along the Bian River at the Qingming Festival ended on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. From Wednesday, January 25, a printed replica of the work is on display.
Museum Garden is closed today.
Japanese Archaeology Gallery on the 1st floor will be closed for exhibition preparation on Monday, December 5 - Monday, December 12, 2011
Rooms 1 - 10 (Highlights of Japanese Art) on the 2nd floor of Honkan (Japanese Gallery) will be closed for maintenance work on Monday, December 12, 2011 - Sunday, January 1, 2012
Please note that the lounge area of Heiseikan including drink corner will not be available on January 6, 2012.

Starting from July 1 through September 22, 2011, Tokyo National Museum will curtail electricity usage as mandated by the Japanese government to attain 15% reduction during peak of demand.

Rooms 12 - 18 on the 1st floor of Honkan (Japanese Gallery) and Japanese Archaeology Gallery on the 1st floor of Heiseikan will be closed for exhibition preparation on Monday, June 6, 2011
"e-Museum", "Digital Archives", "Library Catalogue Search", "Image search", "List of Academic Database" will not be available from 18:00 on June 19 to 9:00 on June 22, 2011 due to facility maintenance.
The museum will be closed on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 for annual facility maintenance.
Reserch and Information Center will be closed for maintenance work on Monday, June 20 - Tuesday, June 21, 2011.
This website will not be available from AM6:30 to AM9:00 on June 2, 2011 due to facility maintenance.
From Sunday May 1, 2011, all of our museum galleries including Hyokeikan (Asian gallery), Kuroda Memorial Hall and the Research and Information Center (closed on weekends) will be open during regular hours. Until Saturday April 30, the museum will be open 10:00 - 16:00 at Honkan and Heiseikan only.

We at Tokyo National Museum would like to send our deepest condolences to the victims of the recent earthquake.
We are currently supporting a project initiated by the Commissioner of the Agency of Cultural Affairs which aims at the immediate preservation of damaged cultural properties and the prevention of any dissipation of these properties. The donation boxes for this project have been placed at the entrance areas to the museum. We appreciate your cooperation.

We, at Tokyo National Museum would like to send our deepest condolences to the victims of the recent earthquake.
We placed donation boxes throughout the museum from Apr. 5 to Apr. 17, 2011, to help support the victims of the earthquake. We would like to report that a total raised amount of 549,468 yen has now been donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Donations to the people affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake

To support the people affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, we have donated our admission fees gained during March 29 - April 3, 2011 and fundings through the donation boxes at the museum to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
During this period, with our shortened opening hours from 10:00 to 4:00pm at the Honkan Japanese galleries along with the archaeology galleries and thematic exhibition room at Heiseikan, we were able to donate a total of 1,686,038 yen. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your generous contributions.
We appreciate your continuing support to our donation boxes at our exhibition galleries.
