Privacy Policy
1. Basic Policy
The Tokyo National Museum (“Museum”) collect personal information from you to better meet your needs and provide quality services on the Museum’s website (“Website”). These services include but not limited to: Membership applications, fulfilling online orders, communication between you and the Museum about its service, E-magazine distribution, registration for various events and guided tours, and feedback submission. The Museum recognizes that it must store and use your information responsibly within the “Intended Use of Personal Data” outlined in this policy.

2. Observation of Laws
The Museum securely stores collected information complying with Act on the Protection of Personal Information Held by Independent Administrative Agencies (No. 59, 2003), Enforcement Ordinance for Act on the Protection of Personal Information Held by Independent Administrative Agencies (No. 549, 2003), as well as National Institutes for Cultural Heritage Personal Information Management Policy and National Institutes for Cultural Heritage Detailed Regulations for Handling Personal Information.

3. What We Collect
The Website does not collect any personally identifiable information, such as your name and date of birth, except for the following cases.
1) The Website automatically collects your domain name, IP address, and other information necessary to browse the Website, though the information is never used with other data that can identify an individual. This may however exclude situations where asked to disclose in accordance with a court or similar legal order, and in the event such disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, and safety of the Museum or its users.
2) Email address is collected if you choose to subscribe to our E-magazine.
3) You will be asked to provide your name and email address if you choose to use online feedback form.
4) You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone number, and email address to register for lectures and workshops advertised on the Website.
5) You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone number, and email address to participate in free giveaway and other prize drawings advertised on the Website.
6) You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone and fax number, email address, age, and gender when making donations.
7) You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone number, email address, age, and gender to apply for membership programs or receive promotional materials.
8) You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone number, email address, age, and gender to apply for the Friends of TNM program.
9) You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone number, email address, age, and gender to apply for Museum Passport and/ or Basic Passport. You will also be asked to present your ID indicating your age to receive applicable discounts.
10) You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone number, email address, gender, and age to subscribe to TNM News.

4. Intended Use of Personal Data
Information collected through browsing the Website described in 3.1 will be used as reference, such as web analytics, to effectively run online services.
Personal information described in 3.2 will be used only to send out E-magazines to subscribers.
Comments and feedbacks described in 3.3 will be used to improve museum services and operation. Comments and feedbacks may be forwarded to concerned departments within the Museum and the National Institute for Cultural Heritages for reference purposes. Your name and email address may be used to answer queries made through online forms.
Personal information described in 3.4 will be used to run the applied event.
Personal information described in 3.5 will be used to send out prizes for the event.
Personal information described in 3.6 will be used to send out receipts and related benefits to the donor.
Personal information described in 3.7 will be used to send out membership card, TNM News subscriptions, and membership packet to the member.
Personal information described in 3.8 and 3.9 will be used to send out membership card and TNM News subscriptions to the member.
Personal information described in 3.10 will be used to send out TNM News subscriptions.

5. Restrictions on Disclosure and Use of Information
The Museum will only use your personal information within Intended Use of Personal Data and does not disclose or share the information with any other party, except if requested to do so in accordance with a court or similar legal order, or where unauthorized accesses or threats to the Museum were found, or under other exceptional circumstances. Aggregated information about origin and site navigation of website visitors, however, may be made public. In addition, comments and feedbacks submitted by users may be reflected in the Website’s contents such as FAQ.

6. Security
The Museum makes every reasonable measures to securely store collected information and prevent loss, unauthorized access, or damage to your personal information.

7. Third Party Processing
In order to provide efficient services, we may employ other businesses, certain services and individuals to handle personal information on our behalf. We make reasonable effort to ensure the security of personal information by selecting experienced third party and including terms and conditions for handling personal information in signed contracts.
*Personal information sent on to the Website through application forms for E-magazine, donation, membership, Friends of TNM, Museum Passport, Basic Passport, and TNM News is encrypted by SSL. Your information is kept secure in ISO(JIS Q)27、ISO20000-1、ISO9001 licensed “Spiral” Database offered by Piped Bits co.
* Payments to our online products can be made securely through SSL encrypted “e-SCOTT Smart” service provided by SmartLink co. “e-SCOTT Smart” is a highly secure service that authorizes credit cards with personal attributes and security code, in addition to credit card number and expiration date.

8. Applicability
This Privacy Policy applies only to personal information collected through the Museum Website(http://www.tnm.jp/). The third parties' practices in connection with handling of personal information are subject to their own privacy policies.

The Museum may revise this privacy policy at any time.
