Tokyo National Museum Mission Statement 2038

An Innovative Museum Co-Created by All, Seamlessly Connecting the Past and Future

Since its founding in 1872, the Tokyo National Museum has preserved countless arts and artifacts of the ancient past. The year 2038 will mark the 100th anniversary of its main venue, the Honkan Japanese Gallery. Looking ahead to this milestone, we will work together with everyone to create a museum that stands at the forefront of innovation and seamlessly connects the past and future.

Together with visitors of all ages, as well as businesses, creators, and other partners, we will delve into history to unearth new discoveries and create moving experiences that carry the museum into the future. The ideas and emotions of people from the distant past will inspire visitors with energy for the future and instill a sense of belonging to a timeless legacy.

Looking toward 2038, the Tokyo National Museum will evolve from an exhibition-centered institution into a global leader representing Japan.
