Features of the Asian Gallery (Toyokan)

  • The Asian Gallery is relatively uncrowded most of the time. Seating is available in most of the exhibition rooms. A lounge is located on the first floor. Beverages in lidded containers are allowed, but eating is not permitted. Eating and drinking are allowed under the eaves outside the building and on the third-floor terrace. There is a restaurant and café in the annex.
(Note) The terrace may be closed at times.

[Sound information]

  • The Asian Gallery is relatively quiet, but faint sounds can be heard from the air-conditioning and other equipment. Regular and special announcements are made through speakers installed throughout the building.

[Light information]

  • To protect the artworks, the exhibition rooms are kept dimly lit. However, brightness varies according to the room, as the lighting is adjusted to suit each exhibit. In contrast, the interactive exhibition space and the museum theater are well-lit with many lights, which creates a bright environment. The lounge and entrance area receive natural light. There are digital displays in some places in the building.
