Available for iOS and Android devices, the e-Museum app provides high-resolution images of Japan's designated National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties in the collections of the four national museums in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, and Kyushu and the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties.
Users can tap, scroll, and zoom their way through each work of art in brilliant color and detail. A selection of illustrated handscrolls and sacred Buddhist texts called sutras are also available for uninterrupted viewing from beginning to end. Slowly scrolling from right to left, users can experience these handscrolls as they were meant to be read.
The e-Museum app is available in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. The app also allows users to link their Twitter accounts to share their discoveries with the world.
