Tile with Inscribed Characters, Found at the site of Ōnodera Temple's earthen pagoda, Osaka, Nara period, 8th century

Roof tiles were inscribed either by carving with spatulas or stamping with seals. Both types record information, such as the names of district governors, that provides clues about where the tiles were originally brought from.
