Patterns, motifs and Chinese characters often adorn the reverse side of bronze mirrors. These elements, together with the beauty of the objects, are hints to understand the philosophy and culture of the time. This exhibit features 8 mirrors from the Warring States to the Tang period, when the most beautiful mirrors are said to be made.

From the late 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, expeditions to western Asia were dispatched from European and other various countries. Excavations and research of the collected artifacts revealed that in western Asia, a unique culture based on Buddhism developed from the 3rd to the 15th century. In this room, artifacts brought back from western Asia by the Otani and other expeditions are displayed.
