This screen depicts a scene from [The Tales of Ise], a famous work of literature from the Heian period (794–1192). Here, an imperial prince enjoys the cherry blossoms at his countryside villa. After composing poetry about the transient beauty of cherry blossoms, he and his attendants open a barrel of sake together.
