Call for Donations for Saving Cultural Properties Damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake

Please support the rescue and conservation of cultural properties damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake.

In the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, precious cultural properties were severely damaged by the tsunami. In response to requests from national and local governments, the Tokyo National Museum (TNM) carried out rescue activities of cultural properties. In accordance with these requests, TNM will, as a specialized institution, continue to dedicate itself to rescue activities including the transportation, preservation and restoration of these cultural properties. Your donations will be used for these activities.  We respectfully ask for your continued support and cooperation.

Thank You for Donations for Saving Damaged Cultural Properties
(October 2013 - September 2015)

We received a total of \1,115,150 in donations for the above period, and wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to those who contributed.
These donations were used in part for the removal of cultural properties from regions where their management is no longer possible. These activities were carried out by Tokyo National Museum staff in Fukushima prefecture and other areas in the Tohoku region.
However, further donations are required to support the long-term activities of specialists engaged in the conservation and restoration of rescued cultural properties. Tokyo National Museum, which will continue engaging in activities for the revitalization of cultural properties damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake, kindly asks for your continued support and cooperation.
