<About the Item>
Sakai Hoitsu was born in Edo (present-day Tokyo) as the second son of the lord of Himeji domain. A keen student of haiku and Noh drama, Hoitsu was greatly influenced by Ogata Korin and contributed to the revival of the Rinpa style in Edo.Taken from Hoitsu's scroll painting of seasonal flowers and birds, this picture depicts a crisp winter scene, with white plum blossoms and narcissus in the snow.
