New Year's Celebration at the Tokyo National Museum

Open from January 2 in 2018 !

2018 is the Year of the Dog. To celebrate the New Year, we will hold a thematic exhibition featuring works of art with dog motifs, display selected masterpieces, as well as kimonos with auspicious patterns, and more. On January 2 and 3, traditional Japanese events, such as drum performances and lion dances, will also be held. Let’s have a wonderful start to the New Year at the Tokyo National Museum!

Oil paintings of the Tokugawa shoguns, Four Heavenly Kings (Edo period, 1620; Cultural Property Registered with Taito-ku), and Twelve Heavenly Generals (Edo period, 1702) will be on view. Visitors with a Tokyo National Museum ticket stub from the same day will receive a paper talisman.
