New Year's Celebration at the Tokyo National Museum

Open from January 2 !

The Tokyo National Museum is holding its twelfth New Year's Celebration, which marks one full cycle around the twelve-year Chinese zodiac. The National Treasure Pine Trees by Hasegawa Tohaku (1539-1610), a superb example of Japanese ink painting, will be shown on this occasion in addition to auspicious and zodiac-related artworks. Traditional performances including a lion dance and Japanese drum ensemble will also be featured for a rich lineup with which to welcome visitors.

Closed to the public from April 2012 for earthquake-strengthening construction, the Kuroda Memorial Hall will finally reopen on Friday, January 2, 2015! Four of Kuroda Seiki’s masterpieces – Woman Reading, Maiko Girl, Lakeside, and Wisdom, Impression and Sentiment – will be specially exhibited in the new Collection Highlights Gallery until Monday, January 12 (a holiday).
